Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage or MLD is a therapeutic massage technique used to facilitate the flow of lymphatic fluid out of a specific area or limb towards the heart where it is filtered out and removed as waste from the body.  The lymphatic system is part of the body's immune system and is responsible for removing cellular waste and toxins from the body.

When fluid accumulates due to inflammation, injury, surgery, or as a side effect of cancer treatments, the lymphatic system may become overloaded and unable to properly drain and filter the fluid, resulting in edema or swelling.  In many cases, this is simple edema, usually related to an injury, as a side effect of a recent surgery, or it can be due to a circulatory problem, which is a more serious condition.

Lymphatic drainage as a complement to cosmetic procedures significantly speeds recovery time, reducing pain, swelling, and bruising, and reducing the risk of fibrosis, or hardened tissue developing, giving you the beautiful results you desire.

In the case of cancer treatments which can damage or compromise the lymph nodes responsible for filtering the fluid, a serious condition called lymphedema can occur. Lymphedema is not curable, but it can be managed with medical therapies, and the effects reduced with MLD.

MLD is useful in reducing mild "puffiness" in the face,

facilitating sinus drainage, and assisting in clearing toxins

from the body, potentially leading to a general feeling of

"wellness".  MLD is an integral part of any detoxification regiment and is great for those on a weight loss program and/or body contouring program.

MLD is a gentle, relaxing massage using rhythmic circular or pumping strokes, and is wonderfully relaxing. MLD can be done as a full body session or integrated into any massage session or facial to treat a specific area.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage can have such positive impact on surgical outcomes performed both before and after surgery.  Some procedures make traveling very difficult for a period of time. To help you realize your very best surgical results, I am available to come to your home, and, with the doctors' permission, to your hospital room. A $10 travel fee will be charged on single sessions, but waived when purchasing a package of 6 or more. Please text, call or email me directly with any questions or to book.
